Music and Me
August 4/24
Hello everybody. My name is Norah Greer, and I am a freshman at converse university. Although this is my first music class I love listening to music, and I am interested to learn more about music. I currently play on the Converse women's soccer team. I have played soccer for the ENCL CESA team for almost 10 years. I am from Union South Carolina, which is only thirty minutes away from the converse campus, so I am quite familiar with the Spartanburg area. I have never lived anywhere else but in Union South Carolina, so I plan on moving out of the state after college. At home I live with my dad, mom, and my brother. I also have a dog who is a 15-year-old chihuahua named Rex.
Since I started college, I have started to listen to more music while studying and doing homework. I have started listening to music that is more in the pop genre. I really have never listened to this type of music but over the past month this is a playlist that I like to listen to while driving down the road and walking to class. This music has been matching my current mood. When listening to this music it gives me energy before my morning classes and my 6am practices. Some examples of these songs are 8Teen my Khalid, Good Days by SAZ, and Better Now by Post Malone. By playing this music it has helped me be more productive and helped my wellbeing. It has also changed my perspective in the way that I view music.
I usually like to listen to a variety of music but one gerne I can’t connect to is heavy metal music. This genre is too aggressive for me and is very intense. It is very hard to sing along or remember the words. The heavy guitars and loud drums are overwhelming to me. The song that I am referring to is Black No. 1 by Type Negative O. This song is very violent and dark, which I do not connect with that. I try to keep an open mind, but I simply can not click with my personal musical preferences. The sonic intensity of the sounds is draining and disturbing rather than enjoyable.
I don't really like country music, but Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter didn't sound bad at all. It has to be my favorite of the ones you shared here. I found it quite catchy actually. I do have to say that you didn't strike me as someone that listened to SZA (I mean no offense by this). I, personally, am not her biggest fan but I will admit that her singing voice is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Nora! I really enjoyed reading your post. I enjoy listening to music country music because I used to hear it all the time when I played softball. I think SZA is a very good artis and Snooze is my favorite song by her. I also put in my blog that Heavy Metal Music is not for me. I have nothing against it I just wouldn't want to be overwhelmed when I am listening to a song.
ReplyDeleteSZA is one of my favorite artists ever, and good days was one of the first songs by her I started listening to, so i love this! Some other songs on that album are also a great listen! I also find Strawberry Wine interesting as I really like that genre of music, as well!
ReplyDeleteI love SZA and Deana Carter as well! I certainly understand the feeling of Strawberry Wine being a comfort song, I am a few years older than most of the students here and I had one of the "oops I'm old" moments, seeing how many people had never heard the song. I think SZA is one of the more profound current mainstream artists we have. It's easy to find hidden meaning in a lot of her songs.
ReplyDeleteHi Nora! I really enjoyed Good Days by Sza because I also like to listed to pop especially SZA. I found Strawberry Wine interesting because it is an older country song but I also enjoyed this song.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how your music tastes have evolved since starting college, especially with pop music becoming a new source of motivation for you. The contrast between your appreciation for the uplifting vibe and the comfort you find in country music shows how adaptable music can be depending on your. I liked your openness to exploring new genres, like pop, even though it’s not something you used to listen to. I feel like I have also been in the same boat recently and have been listening to new genres too!
